Total E&P Angola, leading a key sector for Angola's development

In the early 1950s, teams of technicians from the Belgian oil company Petrofina were the first to discover commercial oil reserves in AngolaTotal AngolaShow more, near Benfica in the Kwanza sediment basin. Petrofina had a concession for this sector – or block in modern parlance – where these pioneers would lay the foundations not just for AngolaTotal AngolaShow more’s oil industry, but also for the company that we now know as Total E&P AngolaTotal AngolaShow more.

While the conditions in which these early geologists worked are far removed from those encountered by the subsidiary’s teams today, some traits have been passed down over time and have made the company what it is today, not least determination and technical creativity.
