T&Is 2016: Nothing beats Team Spirit
Published on June 08th 2018
I joined the Company 27 years ago. I began in 1991, as a Trainee Process Operator and trained to become a Process Operator. I worked as a Process Operator for 16 years. I had a strong interest in training and thus applied for a training position within the company. I was promoted Training Leader, which I have been doing for 11 years.
However, I really miss working on shifts, preparing for maintenance and inspections. Thus I greatly appreciated working the T&I (Turnaround and Inspection) back in 2016, decommissioning units, together with 80 people coming from different shifts. Even though the pace was very intense, with 12-hours workdays, seven days a week and very little sleep, I enjoyed this teamwork opportunity.
I chose to participate to the bicycle ride from Killingholme to Paris to commemorate the refinery’s 50th anniversary. It was also to help the Lincolnshire Air Ambulance charity whose intervention 2 ½ years ago was crucial to save my friend and colleague Steve Cook.
I took this ride as a personal challenge, and a new teamwork experience with good people.
