Start-up of the Dakar refinery

Built in a few months by the Société africaine de raffinage (SAR), itself formed in 1962 by CFP and several entities that would form the future Elf Group, the Dakar refinery is the first and only one in Senegal. Built with the support of the Senegalese State, which expects energy independence and economic spin-offs, it has an annual capacity of 600,000 tonnes. As one of the country's leading industrial establishments, it supplies the Senegalese market with petrol, diesel, kerosene and fuel oil. As a sign of its importance, the new refinery was inaugurated by President Senghor on January 27, 1964.
