Exploration-Production begins for the CFP !

By the late 1950s, CFP was well established in Senegal in distribution, but not yet invested in exploration and production. Wishing to diversify its resources and be less dependent on the Middle East, it decided to take the plunge in its turn by creating the Total Oil Company in West Africa (COPETAO). Its mission: to search for hydrocarbons in Casamance, in Kolda, in a narrow strip of land of 12,000 square kilometres that extends under the sea by a continental shelf. No one's surveyed this area yet. But the engineers are convinced that there is oil off the coast. As offshore exploration requires a long preparation, the decision is made to start with onshore research.
