Geological engineer at SN Repal, then in 1958 chief geologist at BRP (Office of Petroleum Research).

Professor at the École nationale supérieure de géologie de Nancy from 1956 to 1991.

Author of numerous books including Geology of petroleum (1966), Geodynamics of petroleum (1980, 2nd ed. 1985), Dynamics of oil and gas accumulations (1983), History of major petroleum discoveries (1985), Profession: petroleum geologist (1987), Oil through the ages (1989), Man and oil (1990), The great hours of exploration of the Elf-Aquitaine group (1992) and What oil tomorrow? (1999). Member of ASPO (Association for the Study of Peak Oil).

He has always shown interest in the Elf group and then Total in exploration, coming to the headquarters library until the end of his life.
