In 1970, Total offered the Emirate of Abu Dhabi a voluntary contribution of French know-how to the development of the country. Among the several projects presented, Sheikh Zayed, President of the United Arab Emirates, concerned about the aridity of the country, has chosen to create an experimental agricultural center in the desert zone. Work began in 1971 and the center entered service in March 1972.
An excellent achievement of sustainable development by TOTAL. The techniques used as well as the training of the local labor force have allowed the development of the vegetable and fruit-growing agriculture and helped to reduce the dependence of Abu Dhabi on the importation of these products. The project attracted several visitors and officials from neighboring countries in the Gulf region and the Middle East.
