The presence of Total Group is continuous in Morocco since 1929. At this date was established la Société chérifienne des pétroles (Cherifian oil Society) in which the CFP acquires a holding. 

 

 

1927 - 1934

  • 1927 The Lille-Bonnières and Colombes Company creates the Moroccan Fuel Company (CMC) with a capital of 10 million Francs. Distribution, under the Stelline brand, begins with the import of drums and cans and thanks to the economic development of the country, develops rapidly. Some agencies are located in the main cities of the country.

  • 1929 Creation of the Société Cherifienne des Pétroles in which the French Oil Company (Compagnie Française des Pétroles: CFP) takes a holding. The French state is also interested and stimulates oil exploration in the country.

  • In 1934, the Cherifian Oil Company discovers the Jebel Tselfat deposit, the first significant deposit of the African continent at the time. Morocco becomes the largest producer of the continent.

    1935 - 1964

    • 1950 The Algerian Petroleum Company Mory (SAPM), in which the CFP took a majority in 1935, creates a subsidiary in Morocco to distribute petroleum products, and opens a depot in Casablanca.

    • 1951 The CFP acquires the Moroccan Fuels Company (Compagnie Marocaine des Carburants : CMC).

    • 1952 The CMC opens its first service stations.

    • 1955 The distribution activities and in particular the first sales outlets change to the TOTAL colors, whose brand was created in 1954.

    • 1959 Agreements are signed with Elf for offshore exploration.

    • 1960 Completion of the construction of the Sidi Kacem refinery.

    • 1964 Total CMC merges with the Moroccan Oil Open and becomes Total Morocco.

    1965 - 1999

    • 1975 Agreements are signed between the Moroccan Bureau of Research and Petrofina: they give rise to seismic campaigns, leading to small discoveries and the construction of a gas pipeline between Douar Jabah and Kenitra. But the results are disappointing, Petrofina leaves Morocco in 1991.

    • 1975 The Group's distribution assets are 50% nationalized. At that date, the PSC sells 313 KT of products, has 335 points of sale and a 17.5% market share.

    • 1981 The assets of Mory and the Moroccan subsidiary of the Group are grouped together.

    • 1994 Total Maroc acquires 50% of the national company and becomes a private company.

    • 1999 Opening of Berrechid's industrial platform dedicated to the manufacture of lubricants.

    2000 - 2019

    • 2001, TotalFinaElf is awarded a request for a reconnaissance study on the Dakhla Offshore zone

    • 2002 The Group participates in partnership with two large-scale rural electrification programs (16,000 customers).

    • 2004 Following seismic work that did not prove conclusive, TOTAL returns the Dakhla Offshore block.

    • 2005 Temasol (jointly owned by TOTAL, Électricité de France and Total Énergie) again chosen to equip 37,000 additional homes with solar energy.

    • 2011 A reconnaissance license is awarded to TOTAL and ONHYM (National Office for Hydrocarbons and Mines) for an offshore area of ​​100,000 km².

    • 2012 The Group conducts geological studies and carries out a study of the seabed. In December, the reconnaissance license is extended for one year and a 3D seismic acquisition campaign of 5,000 km² started at the end of 2012.

    • 2013 The group completes the 3D seismic acquisition of 5,900 km² in July.
